Side Leg Swings

Abductors, AdductorsBodyweight

A dynamic mobility exercise to warm up and open your hips. Engages the inner and outer thigh muscles to prepare your legs for lateral movement. Performed standing, one leg at a time.

How to do it

1Stand tall with upright posture, resting a hand on a sturdy surface for balance.
2Shift your weight onto your standing leg, keeping a soft bend in the knee.
3Smoothly swing your working leg out to the side while keeping your torso perfectly still.
4Sweep the leg back across the front of your body toward the opposite side.
5Continue swinging side to side, keeping your active foot facing forward in a neutral position.

Common mistakes

Swaying your upper body side to side, shifting work from your hips to your lower back.
Turning your foot outward, changing the path and lowering target muscle activation.
Forcing an excessively high leg swing, which can cause hip joint discomfort.

Breathing

Keep your breathing steady, exhaling as your leg reaches the end of each swing.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
