Leg Press

QuadsGym Machine

The leg press is a powerful compound exercise for building quad strength while keeping unnecessary strain off your lower back.

How to do it

1Sit in the machine with your back flat against the pad and feet shoulder-width apart on the platform, toes turned slightly outward.
2Unlatch the safety handles and extend your legs without locking your knees.
3Slowly lower the platform under control until your knees reach a 90-degree angle. Keep your lower back glued to the backrest.
4Drive through your feet to press the platform back up. Stop just short of fully extending and locking out your knees at the top.
5Repeat with smooth, controlled cadence.

Common mistakes

Locking out your knees at the top — this places heavy, unnecessary stress on your joint. Keep a soft bend.
Letting your lower back lift off the pad at the bottom, which puts strain on your spine. Keep your pelvis grounded.
Using too much weight, causing you to lose control and cut your range of motion short.
Poor foot placement: placing feet too high or low shifts focus awkwardly and strains your knees.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower the platform; exhale forcefully as you press it back up.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier: Reduce the weight or shorten the range of motion by not dropping the platform as deep.
To make it harder: Add weight, pause for 1–2 seconds at the bottom, or switch to single-leg presses.
Experiment with foot placement: A narrow or higher stance targets the quads, while a wider or lower stance engages the glutes and inner thighs.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
