Lateral Box Step-Over
Glutes, Quads, Hip AbductorsPlyo Box
Dynamic single-leg exercise targeting the legs and glutes while placing high demands on balance. Stepping laterally over the box builds coordination and strengthens hip abductors.
How to do it
1Stand sideways to the plyo box with tall posture and a tight core.
2Place your lead foot flat in the center of the box, distributing weight across your whole foot.
3Drive through your lead foot to stand up, swinging your back leg over the box.
4Step down with your trailing leg on the far side and follow with your lead leg.
5Repeat the movement stepping back in the opposite direction.
Common mistakes
Letting your working knee cave inward during the step-up, placing unnecessary stress on the joint.
Pushing off the floor with your trailing leg instead of driving up through the lead leg.
Losing balance and dropping abruptly onto the floor.
Breathing
Inhale before starting the step-up; exhale as you drive your body over the box.
Make it harder or easier
Use a lower box to make it easier, or hold weights to increase the challenge.
