Kneeling Cable Crunch
Abs, ObliquesCable, rope attachment
This is an isolation exercise for the abdominals that applies continuous cable resistance, flexing your spine without overloading your hip flexors.
How to do it
1Kneel facing the cable machine, grab the rope, and position your hands right beside your temples.
2Tuck your pelvis slightly and lock your hips vertically in place.
3Exhale and flex your spine, crunching your elbows down toward your thighs using your abs.
4Pause at the bottom for a second, squeezing your abs as hard as you can.
5Inhale and slowly return to the starting position under control, without unbending your arms.
Common mistakes
Pulling with your arms instead of crunching your abs removes core tension and fatigues your shoulders.
Sitting your hips back onto your heels turns the movement into a squat and unloads the abs.
Hyperextending your lower back at the top puts unnecessary stress on your spine.
Breathing
Exhale as you crunch down into full abdominal contraction. Inhale as you slowly reverse back to the start.
Make it harder or easier
To regress, lighten the stack and shorten your range of motion. To progress, add a pause at peak contraction or increase the weight.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
