Kipping Pull-Up

Kipping Pull-Up

lats, biceps, core, shouldersPull-Up Bar

A dynamic pull-up variation that uses body momentum to drive chin over bar. Builds shoulder girdle power, core control, and coordination.

How to do it

1Hang from the bar with an overhand grip slightly wider than shoulder-width, arms straight and shoulders engaged.
2Initiate the kip swing by alternating between driving your chest forward and pushing your heels back.
3Snap your legs forward and brace your core, driving your body into a hollow body position.
4Use that momentum to aggressively pull your body up until your chin clears the bar.
5Push away from the bar at the top to smoothly arc back into the kip swing for your next rep.

Common mistakes

Disengaging your shoulders at the bottom hang, dumping harsh shock loads into your joints and ligaments.
Losing control on the descent, crashing straight down into the bottom hanging position.
Poor swing timing, breaking the movement into clunky, inefficient phases and killing your momentum.

Breathing

Inhale during the arch (chest out) phase, and exhale as you drive up over the bar.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
