Kettlebell Overhead Carry
Shoulders, Core, Traps, Glutes, QuadsKettlebell
The overhead kettlebell carry is a unilateral exercise that strengthens your shoulders, upper back, core, and legs while walking. Maintaining strict vertical spinal alignment under overhead load builds elite trunk stability.
How to do it
1Press a kettlebell overhead with one arm, locking out your elbow and packing your shoulder.
2Brace your abs and glutes, keeping your hips square and spine neutral.
3Walk forward with slow, controlled, short steps.
4Keep your working shoulder packed down away from your ear.
5Finish the distance, pause, and safely lower the kettlebell to your shoulder, then to the floor.
Common mistakes
Bending your elbow, compromising arm stability and shoulder safety.
Leaning sideways or arching your back to prop up the weight.
Rushing your steps, causing you to lose balance and swing the bell.
Breathing
Breathe steadily while maintaining a moderate core brace throughout the carry.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, use a lighter bell or switch to a front-rack carry.
To make it harder, walk along a narrow line or use a heavier kettlebell.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
