Kettlebell Strict Press

Kettlebell Strict Press

Shoulders, TricepsKettlebell

A fundamental vertical press for building shoulder strength and triceps. Performing this standing single-arm press challenges your core stability and demands upright posture.

How to do it

1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding the kettlebell locked in a stable rack position at your shoulder.
2Brace your core and squeeze your glutes to lock your lower back in place.
3Exhale as you press the kettlebell straight up until your arm is fully extended overhead.
4Lock out the weight directly over your shoulder joint without leaning your body to the side.
5Inhale as you smoothly pull the kettlebell back down to the rack position.

Common mistakes

Leaning your torso backward to push the weight, placing severe load on your lumbar spine.
Dipping your knees to push with leg drive, turning a strict press into a push press.
Pressing the kettlebell out wide away from your head, making it difficult to control.

Breathing

Exhale as you press the kettlebell overhead. Inhale as you return it back to your shoulder.

Make it harder or easier

To regress, switch to a lighter kettlebell.
To progress, add a two-second pause at full lockout overhead on each rep.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
