Kettlebell Overhead Triceps Extension

Kettlebell Overhead Triceps Extension

TricepsKettlebell

The overhead kettlebell tricep extension is an isolation movement that builds tricep strength and overhead shoulder stability.

How to do it

1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding the kettlebell horns overhead with both hands.
2Fix your elbows close to your head and point them straight forward.
3Bend your elbows to lower the kettlebell smoothly behind your head until you feel a full stretch in your triceps.
4Pause briefly at the bottom stretch position.
5Extend your arms by flexing your triceps, pressing the weight back overhead.

Common mistakes

Flaring your elbows out to the sides, taking tension off the triceps and stressing the shoulders.
Arching your lower back excessively, creating unsafe spinal pressure.
Swinging your body, using momentum instead of isolated arm strength.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower the weight behind your head, and exhale as you extend your arms overhead.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, use a lighter kettlebell or perform the movement seated.
To make it harder, increase the weight or hold a one-second isometric pause at the bottom.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
