Jump Rope

Jump Rope

Calves, quads, coreJump Rope

A classic cardio exercise to strengthen your calves, quads, and core while building endurance, coordination, and foot elasticity.

How to do it

1Stand tall, holding the handles at hip height with your elbows tucked close to your ribs.
2Flick the rope using your wrists and bounce lightly off the balls of your feet.
3Jump just high enough for the rope to clear under your feet.
4Land softly on the balls of your feet, letting your knees absorb the impact without letting your heels slam down.
5Keep your torso upright and your core lightly engaged throughout the set.

Common mistakes

Jumping too high and kicking your heels back, which loads joints unnecessarily and ruins rhythm.
Swinging from your shoulders instead of driving the rope with your wrists.
Landing flat-footed or on your heels, sending harsh impact forces up your spine.

Breathing

Maintain a steady, rhythmic breathing pattern through your nose or mouth matched to your jump tempo.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, practice jumping without a rope or slow down your pace. To make it harder, introduce double-unders or use a weighted rope.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
