Prone Dumbbell I-Raise
Lower Traps, Lower BackLight Dumbbells, Bench
A prone bench exercise to build lower trap strength and spinal stability. Lifting arms straight forward in an I-shape strongly targets the scapular stabilizers. Requires light weights and strict focus on technique.
How to do it
1Lie face down on a bench with light dumbbells hanging straight down.
2Turn palms facing inward, keep your neck long, and drop your shoulders away from your ears.
3Raise your arms straight forward and up overhead into a line with your torso.
4Focus on pulling your shoulder blades down your back as your arms go up.
5Hold the top position for a second, then smoothly return to the start.
Common mistakes
Lifting your chest off the bench and hyperextending your lower back to hoist the weight.
Bending your elbows, shortening the lever and reducing engagement in target muscles.
Jerking the dumbbells up, putting harmful strain on the shoulder joint.
Breathing
Exhale as you lift your arms forward and up. Inhale as you return to the start position.
