Incline Dumbbell Curl

BicepsDumbbell

An isolation exercise that targets the biceps in a stretched position. Sitting on an incline bench stops momentum from your torso and concentrates all the tension directly on the target muscle.

How to do it

1Set an incline bench to 45–60 degrees and sit down, pressing your back and shoulders firmly against the pad.
2Hold a dumbbell in each hand and let your arms hang straight down with your palms facing forward.
3Bend your elbows smoothly to curl the dumbbells up, driving the movement with your biceps.
4Pause at the top for a second, keeping constant tension in your biceps.
5Slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position under complete control.

Common mistakes

Lifting your back off the bench, which brings your torso into the movement and unloads the bicep.
Drifting your elbows too far forward as you curl, shifting the work onto your front delts.
Dropping the dumbbells quickly at the bottom, putting dangerous stress on your tendons.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower the dumbbells, and exhale as you curl them up.

Make it harder or easier

To simplify, lighten the dumbbells or slightly increase the bench incline.
To make it harder, add a two-second pause at the point of peak contraction.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
