Incline Dumbbell Front Raise

Front deltsDumbbells, Incline Bench

An isolation exercise that targets the front deltoids. Performing it on an incline bench removes momentum and maintains constant muscular tension.

How to do it

1Set an incline bench to 45–60 degrees and sit back, pressing your spine firmly into the pad.
2Grab dumbbells with an overhand grip and let your arms hang straight down at your sides.
3Exhale and smoothly raise the weights out in front to shoulder height, keeping a slight bend in your elbows.
4Pause briefly at the top to lock in control.
5Inhale as you slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.

Common mistakes

Lifting your back off the bench, which takes tension away from the delts.
Using heavy weights that force swinging and cause loss of movement control.
Fully locking out the elbows, placing strain on the elbow joints.

Breathing

Exhale as you raise the dumbbells up, and inhale as you lower them back down.

Make it harder or easier

To simplify, reduce the weight or perform alternating reps.
To progress, hold a two-second pause at the peak contraction.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
