Handstand Hold

Handstand Hold

Shoulders, CoreBodyweight

A static hold that builds shoulder strength and core stability. Features heavy axial loading and demands balance and total-body tension.

How to do it

1Place your palms shoulder-width apart on the floor with fingers spread wide.
2Kick up smoothly into an inverted vertical position.
3Stack your body in a straight line—brace your core, squeeze your glutes, and point your toes.
4Actively push the floor away without bending your elbows or sagging into your shoulders.
5Maintain balance by gripping the floor with your fingers and keeping full body tension.

Common mistakes

Arching the lower back, which drains balance and strains the spine.
Bending the elbows, fatiguing the arms quickly and losing stability.
Keeping the hands relaxed, disabling active fingertip micro-adjustments.

Breathing

Breathe steadily and rhythmically throughout the hold—do not hold your breath.

Make it harder or easier

To scale down, perform the hold against a wall. To progress, reduce contact points or transition into handstand push-ups.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
