Half-Kneeling Anti-Rotation Hold

Half-Kneeling Anti-Rotation Hold

Obliques, abs, coreCable Machine or Band

An anti-rotational static hold that trains your core to resist rotational forces, protecting your lower back and building spinal stability. The half-kneeling stance forces your hips and glutes to engage.

How to do it

1Drop into a half-kneeling position side-facing a cable machine or anchor point, maintaining an upright posture.
2Hold the handle with both hands and pull it to the center of your chest to set tension.
3Brace your core and glutes, then extend your arms straight out in front of your chest.
4Resist the pull of the cable, holding your torso and arms completely still.
5Slowly bring the handle back to your chest under control, complete your set, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Leaning toward the anchor or letting your hips collapse, neutralizing the anti-rotational core work.
Shrugging your shoulders toward your ears, overusing your upper traps and neck.
Using too much weight, forcing your body to rotate or tilt to hold the position.

Breathing

Breathe deeply and evenly through your nose while keeping constant tension in your abs.

Make it harder or easier

To regress, lower the weight stack or step closer to the anchor point.
To progress, increase the resistance or press the handle slowly in and out without letting your torso twist.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
