Foam Roller Quad Stretch
QuadsFoam Roller
Gentle self-myofascial release for the quadriceps using a foam roller face down, working one leg at a time to ease tightness in the front of the thigh.
How to do it
1Lie face down supported on your forearms, placing the foam roller under the front of one thigh.
2Bend your non-working knee out to the side for support and leverage.
3Slowly roll the front of your thigh from just above the knee up to your hip joint.
4When you find a tender spot, hold position and gently flex your knee, drawing your foot toward your glute.
5Slowly extend your leg back down and resume rolling.
Common mistakes
Arching your lower back while rolling, placing unnecessary strain on your spine.
Rolling too fast and erratically, preventing the muscle from relaxing.
Rolling directly over the kneecap, causing unpleasant joint pressure.
Breathing
Breathe deeply and rhythmically throughout. Use your exhales to consciously release tension in the quad.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, shift more of your body weight onto your forearms and supporting leg.
To make it harder, keep your knee flexed while rolling slowly over tender spots.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
