Foam Roller Glute Release

Foam Roller Glute Release

GlutesFoam Roller

Seated myofascial release for the glutes using a foam roller, targeting deep tissue in the hip and gluteal region one side at a time.

How to do it

1Sit on the foam roller with knees bent and hands placed on the floor behind you for support.
2Shift your body weight onto one glute and cross that leg's ankle over your opposite knee.
3Lean your torso slightly toward the working side to target the glute muscle directly.
4Slowly roll back and forth over the glute using short, controlled motions.
5Find the most tender spot and hold for a few seconds while breathing deeply.

Common mistakes

Rolling directly over the bony landmarks of the hip, causing sharp pain.
Slouching into your shoulders, which overloads your upper body and neck.
Holding your breath when you hit tender trigger points.

Breathing

Keep your breath deep and steady. Focus on relaxing your glutes with every exhale.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, keep both feet flat on the floor instead of crossing your ankle over your knee.
To make it harder, lean deeper into the target hip to apply more pressure.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
