Single-Leg Floor Taps

Single-Leg Floor Taps

Quads, Glutes, CalvesBodyweight

A single-leg balance exercise that strengthens your thighs and improves stability. Great for building strength in the stabilizer muscles of your feet and ankles.

How to do it

1Stand tall, shift your weight onto one leg, and keep a slight bend in that knee.
2Lift your other foot off the floor, holding it in the air.
3Slowly bend your standing knee and lightly tap the floor with your free foot in front or to the side.
4Drive through the heel of your standing foot to return to a fully upright position.
5Complete your reps on one side, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Letting your standing knee collapse inward, which strains the joint.
Shifting your body weight onto the tapping foot instead of keeping it on the standing leg.
Letting your standing heel lift off the floor, which ruins your balance and overloads your joints.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower and tap, then exhale as you push back up to the start.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, hold onto a wall or chair for support; to make it harder, tap further away or stand on an unstable surface.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
