Farmer's Carry

Forearms, CoreDumbbells

The farmer's carry is a straightforward functional movement. It builds elite grip strength, forearm density, and rock-solid core stability.

How to do it

1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a heavy dumbbell in each hand.
2Let arms hang at your sides with elbows straight. Pull shoulders back and down, chest up, and brace your core tight.
3Begin walking forward with short, deliberate steps. Maintain a tall posture and resist swaying side to side.
4Keep a tight grip and brace your midsection hard. Don't let your shoulders slouch or body tilt.
5Walk the set distance or time, then lower the dumbbells safely by bending your knees.

Common mistakes

Slouching shoulders forward. Keep chest tall and shoulder blades pulled back.
Swaying side to side with every step, overloading the lumbar spine.
Picking weights too heavy to carry with tall posture and clean mechanics.
Looking down at your feet, placing unnecessary stress on your neck.

Breathing

Breathe deep and steady throughout the walk—inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. Do not hold your breath.

Make it harder or easier

To make it harder: increase dumbbell weight, increase distance, or perform carries on incline/stairs.
To make it easier: lighten the dumbbells or shorten your walk distance.
For extra core challenge: carry a dumbbell in only one hand (suit-case carry) to force anti-lateral flexion.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
