Eccentric Calf Drop

Eccentric Calf Drop

CalvesElevated Surface

Unilateral calf exercise emphasizing a slow negative stretch under load using a step edge. Controlling the eccentric phase builds tendon resilience and deep muscle strength.

How to do it

1Place the ball of one foot on the edge of a step, holding a handrail for support.
2Press up onto your toe, using your off leg to help if needed.
3Shift all your weight to the working leg and lift the other foot free.
4Slowly lower your working heel below the step level under strict control.
5Place the free foot back on the step, rise back to the top, and repeat.

Common mistakes

Letting your heel drop quickly, completely missing the eccentric strength benefit. atmosphere
Pressing up on one leg alone, fatiguing the calf before the negative phase.
Collapsing your foot inward or outward, creating bad torque on the ankle joint.

Breathing

Inhale as you slowly lower your heel down, and exhale as you return to the start.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, hold onto a secure support with both hands.
To make it harder, slow down your descent to a full five seconds.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
