Dumbbell Waiter's Carry
Shoulders, Triceps, AbsDumbbell
A unilateral functional exercise building overhead stability, shoulder strength, triceps, and core control. Carrying a dumbbell overhead forces your posture to lock in.
How to do it
1Press a dumbbell straight overhead with one arm, fully locking out your elbow and pulling your shoulder away from your ear.
2Brace your core tight and keep your torso upright without leaning to the side.
3Walk forward at a steady pace with small, controlled steps.
4Cover the distance, lower the dumbbell safely, and repeat on the other side.
Common mistakes
Arching your lower back or leaning sideways, putting dangerous stress on your spine.
Letting your elbow bend, which fatigues the triceps and destabilizes the weight.
Shrugging your shoulder toward your ear, straining the upper trap.
Breathing
Maintain steady, deep breathing throughout the walk without holding your breath.
Make it harder or easier
To simplify, reduce the weight or hold the dumbbell at shoulder height in a front rack.
To progress, slow your walking pace or walk tandem heel-to-toe.
