Dumbbell Squeeze Press

Dumbbell Squeeze Press

Chest, TricepsDumbbells, Bench

A press variation where you crush the dumbbells together throughout the entire movement. It focuses load on the inner chest and triceps while protecting your shoulders.

How to do it

1Lie flat on the bench, holding the dumbbells above your chest and squeezing them tightly together.
2Lower the dumbbells toward the center of your chest while constantly pressing them into each other.
3Touch the weights lightly to your chest without letting go of the inward pressure.
4Exhale and press the weights back up, maintaining maximum compression between the dumbbells.
5Pause briefly at the top while keeping constant inward tension.

Common mistakes

Easing up on inward pressure, which cuts chest activation and ruins the drill.
Dropping the weights too quickly and losing control of the rep.
Arching your lower back excessively, dumping stress into your lumbar spine.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower the dumbbells to your chest, and exhale as you press them back up.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, use lighter weights and focus purely on squeezing hard. To make it harder, add a two-second pause at the bottom without relaxing.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
