Dumbbell Snatch

Dumbbell Snatch

shoulders, traps, glutes, hamstrings, backDumbbell

Dynamic unilateral exercise that builds power in the legs, glutes, and shoulders. Working one arm at a time heavily engages your core stabilizers and requires strong coordination and control.

How to do it

1Stand over the dumbbell with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width and hips hinged back.
2Grip the dumbbell with one hand while keeping a flat back, extending your non-working arm out to the side for balance.
3Drive explosively through your legs and glutes, accelerating the dumbbell upward close to your body.
4As the dumbbell reaches chest level, drop underneath it and catch it overhead with an extended arm.
5Stand up fully with the weight locked overhead, then carefully lower the dumbbell back to the floor.

Common mistakes

Pulling the weight using only arm strength, which cuts off leg drive and overloads the shoulder.
Rounding your back in the setup position, placing dangerous stress on your lower back.
Letting the dumbbell drift away from your body, losing control and increasing joint injury risk.

Breathing

Take a deep breath before starting the pull and exhale as you lock the dumbbell overhead.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
