Dumbbell Grip Hold
ForearmsDumbbell
The dumbbell hold is a simple isometric exercise to build grip strength and forearm endurance. Spinal loading is minimal, so the primary goal is simply holding the weight for the target duration.
How to do it
1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart and shoulders pulled down.
2Grab a dumbbell in each hand using a solid overhand grip.
3Let your arms hang naturally at your sides, keeping the weights off your thighs.
4Maintain tall posture with an open chest, and do not shrug your shoulders up.
5Hold for the set time, then lower the dumbbells to the floor under control.
Common mistakes
Rounding your shoulders forward, putting excess strain on your neck and upper traps.
Resting the weights against your thighs, taking work off your forearms.
Arching your lower back when trying to hold weights that are too heavy.
Breathing
Breathe deeply and rhythmically throughout the hold—never hold your breath.
