Dumbbell High Pull

Dumbbell High Pull

traps, shoulders, biceps, quads, glutesDumbbells

The dumbbell high pull is a dynamic upper-body builder driven by leg power. It strengthens your shoulders and upper back while training total-body power.

How to do it

1Stand tall holding dumbbells in front of your thighs with an overhand grip.
2Softly bend your knees and hinge slightly forward at your hips.
3Explosively extend your hips and knees to drive momentum into the weights.
4Lead with your elbows up and out to pull the dumbbells to chest height.
5Lower the dumbbells back down under control to return to the starting position.

Common mistakes

Pulling strictly with your arms without leg drive, overloading your shoulders.
Rounding your upper back, placing unnecessary strain on your spine.
Keeping your elbows lower than your wrists at the top of the pull.

Breathing

Inhale as you dip into the knees; exhale as you explode up and pull the dumbbells high.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, use lighter weights and shorten your range of motion.
To make it harder, increase the dumbbell weight or perform the movement unilaterally.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
