Dumbbell Halo

Dumbbell Halo

Shoulders, Traps, Rotator CuffDumbbell

A mobility drill that enhances shoulder joint health and builds strength in the rotator cuff. It requires precise control of the dumbbell path as you circle it around your head.

How to do it

1Stand upright holding a single dumbbell vertically with both hands in front of your chest.
2Brace your core and lock your hips to keep your torso motionless.
3Smoothly circle the dumbbell around your head, guiding it close to your ear and over your neck.
4Bring the dumbbell past your opposite shoulder and back to your chest to complete the circle.
5Reverse directions on the next rep for balanced work across both shoulders.

Common mistakes

Craning or circling your head, putting excessive strain on your neck.
Arching your lower back as the dumbbell passes behind you, losing core control.
Drifting the dumbbell too far away from your head, making the movement harder to control.

Breathing

Breathe steadily: inhale as the dumbbell moves behind your head, exhale as it returns to your chest.

Make it harder or easier

To regress, use a lighter weight or perform the exercise kneeling. To progress, slow down the rotation speed.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
