Dumbbell Floor Press
Chest, Front Delts, TricepsDumbbells
By limiting range of motion with the floor, this exercise protects the shoulders while safely building chest and triceps strength.
How to do it
1Lie on the floor with knees bent and feet flat, holding dumbbells extended directly over your chest.
2Pull your shoulders down, retract your shoulder blades, and press your lower back flat.
3Slowly lower the weights until your triceps and elbows gently touch the floor.
4Pause briefly at the bottom without relaxing tension in your upper body.
5Press the dumbbells back up, bringing them together over your chest.
Common mistakes
Bouncing your elbows hard off the floor, which can bruise joints and cause loss of control.
Flaring your elbows out straight at 90 degrees, overworking the front delts.
Arching your lower back or lifting your feet off the ground, losing your stable base.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower the dumbbells to the floor; exhale as you press them back overhead.
Make it harder or easier
To lower intensity, use lighter dumbbells or a neutral grip.
To increase intensity, pause for 2 seconds on the floor before pressing.
