Decline Dumbbell Triceps Extension
TricepsDumbbells, Incline Bench
The decline dumbbell tricep extension delivers deep tricep isolation. The head-down angle changes the vector of force, creating maximum stretch and tension at the bottom of the rep.
How to do it
1Secure your feet and lie back on a decline bench, holding dumbbells straight up over your chest.
2Lock your elbows in place, pointing them straight up and slightly inward.
3Inhale as you slowly lower the weights toward your forehead or just past your head.
4Hold for a second at the point of maximum tricep stretch.
5Exhale and extend your elbows with a controlled press back to the start position.
Common mistakes
Letting your elbows drift out of position, shifting work onto your chest.
Dropping the weights quickly toward your forehead, putting your elbows at risk.
Arching your lower back or heaving your body to push heavy weights up.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower the dumbbells toward your head. Exhale as you press back up to full lockout.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, drop the weight or reduce the decline angle of the bench.
To make it harder, pause for two full seconds at the bottom stretch position.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
