Dumbbell Crush Press

Dumbbell Crush Press

Inner Chest, Front Delts, TricepsDumbbells, Bench

A bench press variation where you actively crush two dumbbells together throughout the rep. This maintains relentless static tension on the inner chest while targeting the front delts and triceps.

How to do it

1Lie on the bench holding dumbbells over your chest with a neutral grip (palms facing each other).
2Press the dumbbells hard against each other, maintaining constant inward pressure.
3Inhale and slowly lower the squeezed dumbbells toward the center of your chest.
4Keep crushing the weights together as you exhale and press them straight back up.

Common mistakes

Easing up on the inward pressure between the dumbbells, ruining the core benefit of the press.
Arching your lower back excessively and lifting your glutes off the bench, taking work off your chest.
Rushing the tempo instead of controlling the movement and feeling the chest work.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower the dumbbells to your chest under control, and exhale as you press them up.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, drop the weight and focus on squeeze force; to make it harder, add a two-second pause at the bottom.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
