Single-Arm Dumbbell Push Press

Single-Arm Dumbbell Push Press

Delts, triceps, glutes, quadsDumbbell

A multi-joint dynamic press using leg drive to push a dumbbell overhead, building explosive total-body coordination, shoulder power, and core stability.

How to do it

1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell at shoulder height with your elbow pointing slightly forward.
2Dip down quickly by bending your knees slightly, keeping your torso upright.
3Explosively extend your legs and hips to drive momentum upward.
4Transfer that leg drive to snap the dumbbell overhead to full elbow lockout.
5Lock out at the top, then control the weight back down to your shoulder.

Common mistakes

Pressing with only your arm instead of using your lower body drive.
Dipping too deep into a squat, which slows down the transfer of power.
Leaning sideways to force the weight overhead.

Breathing

Inhale on the quick dip, and exhale forcefully as you drive the weight overhead.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, reduce the weight or slow down the rhythm. To increase intensity, go heavier or pause briefly in the dip before driving up.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
