Bench-Supported Dumbbell Preacher Curl

Bench-Supported Dumbbell Preacher Curl

BicepsDumbbell, Bench

This exercise isolates the biceps by locking your arm against an incline pad, preventing body sway. It builds the lower bicep region and brachioradialis effectively.

How to do it

1Set an incline bench to 45–60 degrees and stand or sit behind it.
2Place your working arm against the pad so your armpit rests flush on the top edge and your tricep sits flat on the incline.
3Grab the dumbbell and lower your arm slowly, keeping a soft bend in your elbow to avoid hyperextension.
4Flex your bicep to curl the dumbbell smoothly toward your shoulder.
5Lower the dumbbell back down under control without letting gravity pull it.

Common mistakes

Fully locking out your elbow under load at the bottom, placing high stress on the joint and tendon.
Lifting your elbow or shoulder off the pad during the curl, losing muscular isolation.
Curling too high past vertical, which removes tension from the bicep.

Breathing

Exhale as you curl the weight up; inhale as you lower it down.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
