Seated Dumbbell Cuban Rotation
Rotator CuffDumbbells, Bench
Strengthen the rotator cuff muscles that keep your shoulders stable. This drill improves joint mobility, warms up your shoulders for heavier lifts, and promotes balanced joint mechanics.
How to do it
1Sit tall on a bench with a straight back, holding dumbbells in hanging arms.
2Drive your elbows up to shoulder level with arms bent at 90 degrees, forearms pointing down.
3Keeping your elbows pinned in place, rotate your forearms up until they are vertical.
4Slowly rotate your forearms back down under control, keeping your shoulders stable.
5Lower your elbows back down to your sides to return to the starting position.
Common mistakes
Moving too fast or using jerky motions, which can strain the delicate rotator cuff muscles.
Letting your elbows drop below shoulder height while rotating.
Using weights that are too heavy, ruining your form and shoulder mechanics.
Breathing
Exhale as you rotate your forearms up, and inhale as you return to the starting position.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, perform the movement with bodyweight or very light dumbbells.
To make it harder, pause at the top of the rotation for two seconds before lowering.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
