Clock Balance Drill

Clock Balance Drill

Glutes, Core, Lower Body StabilizersBodyweight

A balance and coordination drill that strengthens the stabilizers in your feet, hips, and core. Reaching your free leg in multiple directions forces your stance leg to hold steady.

How to do it

1Stand tall, shift your weight onto one leg, and keep a soft bend in the knee for stability.
2Imagine standing in the center of a clock face and reach your free leg forward, lightly tapping your toe.
3Return to center, then reach out to the side, backward, and across to the opposite side.
4Keep your torso upright by keeping your core engaged and your stance glute tight.
5Complete a full circle, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Shifting your body weight onto the tapping foot, taking tension off the stance leg stabilizers.
Locking out the stance knee completely, which dramatically reduces stability.
Leaning or twisting your torso to reach farther, throwing off your balance.

Breathing

Breathe smoothly and deeply throughout the drill without holding your breath.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, tap closer to your stance foot and hold onto a wall or chair.
To make it harder, slow down the movement, reach farther out, or stand on a balance pad.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
