Chair Push-Up

Chair Push-Up

Chest, Shoulders, TricepsChair

An elevated push-up variation that is easier than standard floor push-ups. Great for targeting your chest, shoulders, and triceps.

How to do it

1Place your hands on the edge of a stable chair, slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
2Step your feet back until your body forms a straight line from head to heels.
3Lower your chest toward the chair by bending your elbows.
4Keep your elbows tucked at a 45-degree angle to your body.
5Push through your hands to return to the starting position.

Common mistakes

Letting your lower back sag, which disengages your core and strains your spine.
Flaring your elbows straight out to the sides, putting stress on your shoulders.
Using unstable furniture that might slide or tip over.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower down, and exhale as you push back up.

Make it harder or easier

To scale down, use a higher surface like a table or wall; to scale up, add a pause at the bottom.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
