Rope Cable Triceps Pushdown

Rope Cable Triceps Pushdown

TricepsCable Machine

Beginner-friendly triceps isolation exercise using a rope attachment on a high cable block. Standing lets you brace your core comfortably and work without stressing your joints. The flexible rope allows you to flare your wrists at the bottom for maximum muscle contraction.

How to do it

1Face the high pulley, grab the rope handles, and hinge slightly forward at the hips.
2Pin your elbows to your sides and lock them in place throughout the set.
3Exhale as you push down, spreading the rope ends apart at the bottom.
4Pause for a moment at the bottom to squeeze your triceps.
5Inhale as you smoothly control the forearms back up to about a 90-degree elbow bend.

Common mistakes

Letting your elbows drift away from your torso, engaging your back and taking load off the triceps.
Swinging your body to move the weight with momentum, reducing exercise effectiveness.
Letting the handles rise too high, losing control and straining your wrists.

Breathing

Exhale as you push the rope down; inhale as you control it back up.

Make it harder or easier

To simplify, drop the weight on the stack; to make it harder, hold a two-second pause at the bottom with the rope fully spread.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
