Standing Cable Fly
ChestCable Crossover
An isolation exercise that maintains constant tension on the chest muscles through the entire range of motion. Ideal for fine-tuning chest isolation and muscle control without placing axial load on the spine. Requires a stable core and smooth control.
How to do it
1Set the cable pulleys to chest height, grab the handles, and step forward into a staggered stance for stability.
2Hinge slightly forward with a straight back and keep a soft bend locked in your elbows.
3Sweep your arms forward in a wide arc, focusing on squeezing your chest.
4Bring your hands together in front of you and hold the contraction for one full second.
5Slowly allow your arms to open back up under control, feeling a full stretch across your chest.
Common mistakes
Fully locking out your elbows or bending them too much, which converts the fly into a press and stresses the joints.
Using momentum and swinging your torso, taking tension away from the chest.
Letting your arms drift too far back behind your torso line, which can overstretch and injure the shoulder joints.
Breathing
Inhale as you open your arms out to the sides under control. Exhale as you bring your hands together in front of you.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
