Cable Side Bend

Cable Side Bend

ObliquesCable Machine

Isolate the obliques using a low pulley standing setup to strengthen your lateral core line and build better pelvic and spinal control.

How to do it

1Stand side-facing to a low cable pulley and grip the handle with the hand closest to the machine.
2Set your feet shoulder-width apart, keep a soft bend in your knees, and lock your pelvis in neutral.
3Side-bend your torso smoothly away from the machine by contracting your obliques.
4Hold for a moment at peak contraction, keeping your shoulders aligned with your hips.
5Resist the cable pulling you back, returning to the start with total control.

Common mistakes

Rotating your hips or shoulders, twisting your lower back instead of bending sideways.
Over-bending with jerkiness, causing uncomfortable compression in the spine.
Using momentum or yanking the cable, raising injury risk and reducing muscle engagement.

Breathing

Inhale before you begin; exhale as you bend to the side against the cable's pull.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, drop the weight or reduce your range of motion.
To make it harder, add a small pause at peak contraction.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
