Cable Rotational Pull

ObliquesCable Machine, D-Handle

The cable standing twist is a unilateral core movement using a D-handle to target your obliques. It builds rotational power and enhances core stability.

How to do it

1Stand side-to-side with a cable pulley set at chest height, gripping the D-handle with both hands.
2Set your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width, soften your knees, and lock your hips in place.
3Rotate your torso away from the machine, sweeping the handle across in a smooth arc using your core.
4Pause briefly at the end of the rotation, keeping your abs tight.
5Slowly return to the start, resisting the pull of the cable.

Common mistakes

Swiveling your hips and legs along with your shoulders, taking work off the obliques.
Pulling the cable with your arms instead of rotating your thorax.
Snapping back to the start position uncontrolled.

Breathing

Exhale as you rotate away from the machine; inhale as you control the handle back.
