Cable Oblique Twist

Cable Oblique Twist

ObliquesCable Machine

The standing cable oblique twist provides constant cable tension to build rotational core strength and trunk stability.

How to do it

1Stand side-on to the cable machine and hold the handle at chest height with both hands.
2Step out to tense the cable, setting your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width.
3Brace your core and rotate your torso away from the stack using your obliques.
4Keep your hips and lower body locked forward, turning only through your thoracic spine.
5Smoothly return to the start, resisting the pull of the weight stack.

Common mistakes

Swiveling your hips and feet along with your torso, which removes isolated oblique tension.
Swinging your arms independently of your trunk, shifting the load to your shoulders.
Releasing back rapidly into the stack, increasing strain on your spine.

Breathing

Exhale as you twist away from the stack; inhale as you return to the center.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
