Cable Lateral Lunge

Quads, Glutes, AdductorsCable Machine, D-Handle

A single-leg cable exercise to strengthen your quads, glutes, and inner thighs. It improves balance and leg strength with minimal spinal loading.

How to do it

1Stand side-facing to a low cable, grab the D-handle, and take a wide step out to create tension.
2Set your feet parallel, wider than shoulder-width, keeping your torso upright.
3Inhale, shift your hips to the side, and bend one knee while driving your hips back.
4Lower to a comfortable depth, keeping your opposite leg straight and both feet flat on the floor.
5Exhale, drive through your working foot, and return to the starting position.

Common mistakes

Letting your working knee collapse inward, putting unhealthy stress on the joint.
Rounding your back as you bend, shifting load to your lower back.
Lifting the heel of your working foot, compromising balance and overloading the knee.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower into the side lunge. Exhale as you push back up to the start.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, use less weight (or bodyweight) and reduce your lunge depth.
To make it harder, increase the weight or add a pause at the bottom of the lunge.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
