Cable Rope Crunch

AbsCable, Rope Attachment

An isolation cable exercise using a rope attachment to target your abs. It allows progressive loading with low axial compression on the spine.

How to do it

1Kneel in front of a high pulley and hold the rope attachment next to your ears.
2Keep your hips fixed over your knees and hold your lower body still throughout the set.
3Exhale and curl your spine downward, driving your elbows toward your thighs using your abs.
4Hold at the bottom for a second, squeezing your abs hard.
5Inhale and slowly uncurl your spine back to the start, controlling the weight.

Common mistakes

Sitting back onto your heels, using momentum and leg movement instead of abs.
Hinging at the hips instead of flexing your spine, which works hip flexors instead of abs.
Pulling the rope with your arms, overloading your triceps and shoulders.

Breathing

Exhale hard as you crunch downward. Inhale as you return to the starting position.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, lower the weight and focus on full spine flexion.
To make it harder, increase the weight or hold a two-second squeeze at peak contraction.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
