Cable T-Bar Row

Lats, Traps, RhomboidsCable Machine, T-Bar Handle

The low cable lat bar row targets the lats and mid-back. The standing position provides solid core stabilization with minimal spinal compression, building a strong, balanced upper back.

How to do it

1Attach a T-bar or wide handle to a low cable pulley, grab it, and take a step back to create tension.
2Set your feet shoulder-width apart, bend your knees slightly, and hinge forward with a flat back.
3Initiate by retracting your shoulder blades and row the handle toward your lower stomach, driving your elbows back.
4Hold the peak contraction for a second, squeezing your back as hard as you can.
5Extend your arms forward under control, feeling a deep stretch across your lats.

Common mistakes

Rounding your lower back, increasing unwanted shear stress on your spine.
Heaving your torso up and down to swing the weight back.
Pulling the bar toward your chest instead of your belly, shifting work to your upper traps.

Breathing

Exhale as you row the handle to your waist; inhale as you control the weight forward.

Make it harder or easier

To lighten the difficulty, reduce the weight and stand slightly more upright.
To increase intensity, hold a hard squeeze at peak contraction on every rep.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
