Box Step-Overs
Quads, Glutes, Hamstrings, Calves, CoreBox / Platform
Functional lower-body exercise that develops leg strength, glute drive, and balance over a plyo box.
How to do it
1Stand tall facing the box with your core locked in.
2Plant your entire foot firmly on top of the box.
3Drive through the lead leg to step up without pushing off the back leg.
4Step your trailing leg over the box and lower yourself down smoothly on the opposite side.
5Turn around or reverse the step-over, switching lead legs.
Common mistakes
Letting your lead knee cave inward as you step up.
Pushing off hard with your back leg, taking load off the lead glute and quad.
Leaning too far forward, throwing off balance and loading the back.
Breathing
Inhale before you step up, exhale as you drive your weight onto the box.
Make it harder or easier
To scale down, use a lower box; to scale up, hold a pair of dumbbells.
