Box Jump

Box Jump

Quads, CalvesPlyo Box

Box jumps develop explosive lower-body power, recruiting fast-twitch quad and calf fibers while enhancing agility and coordination.

How to do it

1Stand 6-8 inches in front of the box with feet shoulder-width apart.
2Quarter-squat down, driving your hips back and swinging your arms behind you.
3Drive explosively through the floor and swing arms up, jumping onto the box.
4Land softly on full feet with knees slightly bent to absorb impact.
5Stand up completely on top of the box to complete hip extension.
6Step down carefully one foot at a time to save your joints from excess impact.

Common mistakes

Landing on your toes, which spikes stress on knees and ankles. Land flat-footed.
Choosing a box too high for your current vertical power, causing extreme knee tucking.
Failing to lock out hips and knees at the top of the box.
Jumping backward off the box instead of stepping down.

Breathing

Inhale as you dip into the countermovement squat, then exhale powerfully as you explode onto the box.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier: use a lower box or practice dynamic step-ups until confident.
To make it harder: raise the box height or wear a light weighted vest once technique is perfect.
Focus on landing quality and soft impact over sheer box height. Safety comes first.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
