Biceps Curl
BicepsDumbbells
Dumbbell curls isolate the biceps to build upper arm strength, muscular size, and elbow flexion power.
How to do it
1Hold a dumbbell in each hand with an underhand grip, palms facing forward, arms extended at your sides.
2Stand tall with shoulders back and elbows tucked close to your torso.
3Exhale as you curl the weights toward your shoulders, squeezing your biceps hard at the top.
4Pause for a second at peak contraction to feel the tension.
5Inhale as you lower the dumbbells back down under control, keeping a tiny bend in your elbows at the bottom.
6Repeat for target reps while maintaining strict body position and full muscular focus.
Common mistakes
Swinging your body: using momentum offloads work from the biceps.
Drifting elbows: letting your elbows swing forward or flare out shifts tension to the front shoulders.
Locking out hard at the bottom: fully resting at the bottom removes constant tension from the muscle.
Dropping the weights fast: lowering without control skips the most effective muscle-building phase.
Breathing
Exhale as you curl the weight up toward your shoulders. Inhale as you lower the weights back down.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier: drop to a lighter weight or complete the exercise seated to eliminate swinging.
To make it harder: perform alternating curls or increase weight while maintaining strict form.
Switch up your grip: use a hammer grip (palms facing each other) to target the forearm and brachialis muscles.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
