Bench Step-Down
Quads, GlutesBench
A controlled step-down from a bench or platform. It strengthens your quads, glutes, and knee stabilizers while fixing strength imbalances between your legs.
How to do it
1Stand on the edge of the bench on one leg, letting the other leg hang off the side.
2Keep your chest up, bend your standing knee, and push your hips slightly back.
3Lower yourself until the heel of your non-working foot lightly taps the floor.
4Drive back up using only your standing leg—do not push off the floor with your bottom foot.
Common mistakes
Pushing off the floor with your bottom foot, which robs the working leg of tension.
Letting your standing knee cave inward, putting stress on the joint ligaments.
Dropping down too quickly, losing muscle engagement and balance.
Breathing
Inhale as you step down; exhale as you drive back up onto the bench.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, use a lower box or step.
To make it harder, increase the platform height or hold dumbbells.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
