Single-Leg Bench Balance

Single-Leg Bench Balance

Ankle Stabilizers, Quads, GlutesBench

Builds single-leg balance and strengthens ankle stabilizers, quads, and glutes to improve coordination and joint stability.

How to do it

1Stand on a sturdy bench with one foot planted completely flat.
2Shift your weight onto the standing leg and carefully lift your other foot off the floor.
3Stand tall, look straight ahead, and keep a subtle bend in your standing knee.
4Hold your balance by gripping with your foot and keeping your glute engaged.
5Step down smoothly and repeat the set on the other side.

Common mistakes

Letting your standing knee cave inward, putting dangerous lateral force on the joint.
Balancing only on your toes, which shrinks your base and overworks your calf.
Leaning forward and staring at the floor, throwing off your center of gravity.

Breathing

Breathe steadily and deeply throughout the hold. Avoid holding your breath to prevent unnecessary tension.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, hold onto a wall or sturdy support with one hand.
To make it harder, slowly turn your head side to side while balancing.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
