Bench-Supported Side Leg Swings

Bench-Supported Side Leg Swings

Abductors, AdductorsBench

Side leg swings using a bench for support. Enhances hip mobility and warms up leg muscles with stability.

How to do it

1Stand side-on to the bench and place your inside hand on it for balance.
2Shift your weight to the standing leg, keeping a slight bend in the knee.
3Smoothly swing your working leg out to the side to a comfortable height.
4Lower it back down along the same path under full control.

Common mistakes

Swinging violently with momentum loses muscle control and engagement.
Leaning your torso far to the opposite side reduces work on the hip abductors.
Rotating your hips during the swing shifts load away from the target hip muscles.

Breathing

Exhale as you swing your leg outward and inhale as you return to the start.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, reduce the swing height. To make it harder, place a light mini-band around your thighs.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
