Barbell Hold
ForearmsBarbell
A static grip endurance exercise that builds forearm strength and holding power for heavy pulling movements.
How to do it
1Stand upright holding a barbell at arm's length with a shoulder-width grip.
2Pull your shoulders back and bend your knees slightly for a solid base.
3Squeeze the barbell tightly with your fingers to prevent it from slipping.
4Hold this position for the target time without leaning or swinging your torso.
5Carefully lower the barbell back to the rack or floor when finished.
Common mistakes
Arching your lower back, losing core tension and placing strain on your spine.
Holding your breath, leading to rapid fatigue and blood pressure spikes.
Holding the bar on your fingertips, increasing the risk of dropping it.
Breathing
Breathe continuously and evenly throughout the hold. Never hold your breath under tension.
Make it harder or easier
Make it easier by using a lighter bar or shorter duration; make it harder by using thick grips or adding weight.
