Barbell Front Raise
ShouldersBarbell
An isolation exercise using a barbell to target the anterior deltoid. The fixed grip requires strict control and smooth execution.
How to do it
1Stand tall, take an overhand shoulder-width grip on the barbell, and let it rest against your thighs.
2Pull your shoulders back, brace your core, and keep a subtle bend in your elbows.
3Exhale and raise the barbell in front of you in a smooth arc up to shoulder height.
4Pause briefly at the top, holding the weight with your front delts.
5Inhale and slowly lower the barbell down without letting it bounce off your thighs.
Common mistakes
Cheating or thrusting your hips, which deprives the target muscles of direct load.
Dropping the bar down quickly, skipping the critical negative phase.
Gripping the bar too wide or too narrow, messing up the shoulder path.
Breathing
Exhale as you raise the barbell in front of you. Inhale smoothly as you return the bar to your thighs.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
