Barbell Front Rack Walk
Core, Abs, Back, Traps, Shoulders, QuadsBarbell
The front rack walk involves carrying a barbell in the front rack position. It heavily engages your core, back, shoulders, and quads, building functional core strength and posture under load.
How to do it
1Unrack the bar onto your front delts with your elbows high.
2Take a step back, stand tall, and lock in a rigid, vertical torso.
3Walk forward with short, deliberate steps, keeping your elbows up.
4Keep your eyes forward and do not let the weight dump your chest.
5Stop, carefully turn or retrace your steps, and rack the bar.
Common mistakes
Dropping your elbows, which shifts the weight forward and strains your wrists and back.
Arching your lower back, increasing axial load on your spine.
Taking steps that are too long, losing stability and balance.
Breathing
Take a deep breath and brace your core before walking, then take short, shallow breaths as you move. Don't lose your brace on the exhale.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, drop the weight or use an empty bar. To make it harder, walk farther or add weight.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
